About us

Backboard.io is foundational AI infrastructure for teams building serious production systems. We give developers and enterprises a single API to orchestrate their entire AI stack across more than 17,000 models, with built-in stateful memory, retrieval-augmented generation, evaluation, routing, and cost optimization. Our platform is designed around a simple belief: memory is architecture, not a feature. Instead of stitching together vector databases, session stores, orchestration layers, and model gateways, teams use Backboard to handle persistence, long-term context, and intelligent retrieval automatically. We manage when information is written, how it is retrieved, and which model should be used so applications remain coherent over time without fragile glue code. Backboard avoids vendor lock-in by supporting proprietary and open-source models through a unified interface, allowing teams to swap providers, run benchmarks, and control spend without rewriting their applications. We are trusted by teams building agent systems, enterprise copilots, research platforms, and large-scale production workflows that demand reliability, security, and performance. From startups to global organizations, Backboard helps builders move faster, ship smarter systems, and operate at scale. Your entire AI stack. World-class memory. One API.

  • Nobody questions using Stripe for payments or Okta for auth. But teams are still rebuilding the same AI infrastructure from scratch every time. Memory systems. Context management. Document processing. Model connections. It adds up fast, and none of it is what your customers are paying you for. The teams shipping fastest right now are not winning because they wrote more infrastructure. They are winning because they decided not to. One integration. Everything your AI product needs to run. Remember: The best engineering decision is often what you choose not to build. #AIInfrastructure #ProductEngineering #BuildWithAI

  • Meet the backboard team! The people who build the product are part of the product. Maggie is solving one of the biggest pain points engineers face when switching between AI models. Claire is shaping what Backboard looks like today and what it becomes tomorrow. And they are both in at 8am, coffee in hand, ready to shape what backboard becomes. Details like this do not show up in feature lists. They show up in how the product feels. Great products are a reflection of the people building them. This is the first in our meet the team series. More to come! #BuildingInPublic #TeamCulture #Backboard

  • We’re excited to partner with Major League Hacking (MLH) to bring production-grade AI building blocks to student developers around the world. MLH is integrating Backboard’s stateful API into their hackathons so builders can go beyond stateless demos and ship complex, production-ready AI apps without the engineering tax. What this means for MLH hackers: Free State Management for Life Bring your own API keys and make any of 17,000+ models instantly stateful. Premium Credits & Prizes Access free software credits for advanced memory features, plus exclusive swag and high-value prize pools. Global Impact A new “Best Use of Backboard.io” prize category is rolling out across MLH hackathons, Global Hack Weeks, and a DEV Challenge. • It is getting easier to win attention than it is to earn trust. In a world of big claims and viral benchmarks, the real signal is simple. Can anyone verify what you built? If it cannot be tested, repeated, or challenged, it is not progress. It is marketing. Impressive claims get reach. Provable systems earn trust. We would rather be boring and verifiable than impressive and questionable. If you are building in this space, save this: Make it testable. Let people break it. Improve from there. #AIBuilders #OpenSource #TechLeadership

  • Inspiring builders building 🙌

We just wrapped up JacHacks at University of Michigan this past weekend, supported by Jaseci Labs. 70 teams. 180+ hackers. 20+ universities. 24 hours. Hosting this was one of the greatest honors of my life. None of it would have happened without Prof. Jason Mars and Lingjia Tang trusting me with the platform and the vision. I think a lot about what it takes to build the next generation of founders, operators, and builders at Michigan. This event felt like a BIG step toward that. I am incredibly lucky to have worked with an amazing team that executed above and beyond: Ponita Ty, Joshua Brodsky, David Yao, Jayanaka Dantanarayana, Edward Lee, Shaurya Pratap Singh, Anirudh Manjesh, Aneesh Kumar, and Kevin. Thank you so much for supporting this. It really takes a village to build something great. Thanks to all judges for your support: Yiping Kang, Sacchit Mittal, Noah Liu for flying in from all over the country just to support us. This truly means a lot to the team! Above all, thanks to all our sponsors for supporting us in executing our vision: Base44, Whop, SH1P, Lovable, InsForge, Backboard.io, Wip, Mastra, NVIDIA, Congrats to our General Track winners: Ayush Madhav Kumar, Aaron Sun, Matus Vecera, Shahzaib Jahanzeb, Abdullah Al Mahmud, Yanshengtian Dong, Shrimann Myneni, Adam Christley, Caeden Kidd, Amar Zecevic, Nitin Shankar, Madhu Chuka, Meron Demissie, Krish Deshmukh, Kuldeep D., and Junna Park. This is only the beginning. Can't wait to see how devs and founders continue using Jac to 10x their workflows.

  • Most teams are not behind on AI.  They are just overwhelmed by how it is being explained. The gap is rarely capability. It is translation.  When tools feel complex, adoption slows. When they feel obvious, people move fast. The shift is simple. Start smaller. Solve one real problem. Make it clear enough that anyone on the team can see the value immediately.  That is how momentum builds. That is also how we think about memory at Backboard.  Not as a feature, but as something that makes every tool feel more useful from the first interaction. If you are building, focus less on sounding smart and more on making others feel capable. #AIAdoption #ProductThinking #BuildInPublic

  • As AI gets cheaper, it doesn't get used less. It gets used everywhere. When cost drops, usage explodes and that shift changes where the advantage lives. It's no longer about who has access to the best models. It's about who can build systems around them. Owning your infrastructure. Owning your data. Owning how everything connects. That's where leverage comes from.  Models are becoming interchangeable. Systems are not. Some teams will build everything internally. Others will move faster by building on platforms designed for it. If you're thinking about the second path, that's exactly what we're building at backboard.io #AITools #AIAgents #AIForBusiness #MachineLearning

  • March update. - a lot shipped! Adaptive context management so you can move between models without losing state. New pricing with light and pro memory tiers depending on how far you want to push accuracy. A redesigned dashboard and navigation to support a growing system. API level memory search for teams that want more control. More configurable orchestrator logic so memory works the way your use case actually needs. None of this is about adding features for the sake of it. It is about making memory usable in real workflows. Reliable across sessions. Flexible across use cases. Consistent across models. If you are building with LLMs, you know where things usually break. State gets lost. Context resets. Systems become unpredictable. The goal is simple: Make memory something you can actually depend on. More to come. #AIInfrastructure #ProductUpdates #LLM
