Film Summer U.S. Box Office Aims For The Sun With $4 Billion+, But Is Fewer Studio Films The Way To Go?
With the successful openings of 20th Century Studios/Disney’s ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’ and Lionsgate’s ‘Michael’, there’s an excitement in the air that this summer finally could deliver another $4 billion-plus season post-Covid. What could stop it? A lack of counterprogramming by the studios, particularly when it comes to putting one potential sleeper against and an event title. This coming frame is one of the few this season that will buck that trend before August. And guess what — it’s going to be a rich weekend. So take note, Hollywood.
