Most platforms launch with manufactured activity to appear established. As SpiritDAO's founder, I made the opposite choice: honest about being a beginning. Our infrastructure is ready, Pod hierarchies, HAT-based roles via Hats Protocol, Governor contract governance, bounty escrow, transparent Safe treasuries. But the community will be authentic, not inherited. This approach is painful in startup life. Vanity metrics would be easier. But as a 501c3 nonprofit, I'm optimizing for impact: creating pathways toward agency where communities can self-govern and experiment with their own scripts. Real communities start from zero. At #ShipSummit, attendees partnered with the Utah Avalanche Center to vibe code real, working solutions that keep backcountry skiers safe. 3,000+ deploys to production and over 1 million tokens later, the Utah Avalanche Center walked away with ideas they can take forward—and a whole lot of people walked away knowing they can build with AI. We're grateful to everyone who showed up and shipped. "We need to know where the bones are buried.” That was what one of my beta testers said when describing their nonprofit's grant tracking system (or lack thereof). When a development director or grant consultant leaves an organization, the "story" of the funding usually walks out the door with them. Suddenly, the remaining team is left playing Data Archaeologist—digging through old emails, fragmented shared drives, and outdated spreadsheets just to figure out when a report is due or how much was asked for last year. For the last six weeks, a cohort of nonprofit leaders has been beta-testing the Excelevate Strategic Funding Tracker.
