Leadership that moves at the speed of retail. John Furner's recognition on the #TIME100 list reflects a clear strategy: combining the power of our people with AI and digital innovation to solve real-world problems for millions. His journey from store associate to CEO is a tangible reminder of the culture that drives us, and just one of the many things that make Walmart so extraordinary.
We’re proud to see John Furner recognized on TIME’s 2026 #Time100 list. Under his leadership, Walmart continues to be people-led and tech-powered — moving with speed, serving customers and members in new ways, and empowering associates to bring the future of retail to life every day. This recognition reflects the momentum of our teams and our shared commitment to making shopping more personal, convenient, and seamless for the millions we serve.

If you’ve ever tried to search for something you don’t quite know how to describe, you know the problem. That’s exactly where AI is making a difference for us at Walmart. At HumanX, Daniel Danker shared how we’re building tools like Sparky, our shopping assistant that works more like a knowledgeable friend than a search box. Ask it about something like new tires, and it doesn’t just return results, it helps you figure out what you actually need, step by step. That’s the shift: from searching to solving. Here’s a snippet from a great conversation at HumanX with Daniel, Madison Alworth.

When platforms break at global scale, it’s usually caused by their underlying assumptions. Which raises the question: what assumptions are baked into your platform? Yoram Vardi shares how hidden design decisions, not just deployment, often limit global expansion. From payment behaviors to language structures, real-world variation exposes gaps between platform behavior and local requirements. Building the future of retail means staying curious. Part of our culture of learning is keeping a pulse on the people pushing the boundaries of what’s possible across the broader tech industry. Check out John Furner's note on his recent sit-down with Jesse Zhang. Fresh perspectives like these help fuel our momentum.
We’re building the future of retail, but we know we don't have all the answers. Part of having a strong culture of listening and learning means we know that the best way to stay ahead is to keep close to the people on the cutting edge of technology. So, when I asked who’s really deep into what’s next for AI, Decagon cofounder and CEO Jesse Zhang’s name quickly came up, and I couldn't wait to invite him to Bentonville to hear his perspective. Jesse recently came and met with some of our leaders, and a few of his points really stuck with me and reinforced the way we're approaching AI: ➡️ Start with the problem, not the tech. The best use of AI isn't the flashy stuff. It’s solving real friction and making everyday life easier. That very much aligns with our people-led, tech-powered approach. ➡️ Turn information into action. The real value of AI comes from moving beyond data to insights, to applying those insights in ways that are relevant and useful for our customers. That’s where it makes a meaningful difference. ➡️ Expectations are instant. We have to move faster. Customers want choice, and then they want the right item in hand, quickly and seamlessly. AI supports every step of this, from anticipating demand to predicting precise delivery windows. Thanks for the talk, Jesse. Always good to learn from people pushing the boundaries.

Innovation at Walmart shows up in the everyday: predicting demand more accurately, keeping the right items in stock and helping orders move faster. It’s also in the tools we’re building for associates and customers, including AI-powered experiences like Sparky. Exciting to see that work reflected in Fast Company’s latest list. https://lnkd.in/e9dFRFxe
We’ve been named to Fast Company's 2026 Most Innovative Companies list, with recognition both overall and in the retail category. This recognition reflects the momentum across our business, from helping customers save money to building new growth engines in marketplace and advertising, and advancing our eCommerce experience. Thank you to the associates and teams driving this forward every day.

You scroll. You compare. You second guess. Two products look almost the same. A third seems different, but it is not clear how. You open tabs, scan details and suddenly a quick decision is taking longer than it should. With millions of items across thousands of categories, even small differences in how products appear can slow customers down. At Walmart, we’re using advanced technology to better understand how products show up in the customer experience. This helps us spot where options feel overwhelming or the right choices are not surfacing fast enough. So it is easier to cut through the noise, compare side by side, and land on the one that is just right. Because convenience is not just about speed. It is about making things clear so customers can see the value right away. Read how we’re simplifying the search: https://lnkd.in/gaAYxcfS

Shopping is changing fast; agentic AI marks the biggest structural shift in retail since eCommerce was first introduced. Instead of scrolling and searching, people are asking AI assistants to find what they need, compare options and even complete the purchase. Walmart is doing more than just adapting to this shift. We are laying the groundwork for agentic commerce: an open, multi-agent ecosystem that meets customers where they are and reflects the multitude of ways they live and shop. Daniel Danker spoke with WIRED’s Paresh Dave about the next iteration of our ChatGPT integration: an embedded experience powered by Sparky, including new basket-building capabilities, built on our deep customer relationships and understanding of their behaviors. Coming soon, an embedded experience within Gemini, also powered by Sparky. Read more here: https://lnkd.in/g6-Ksssq #AgenticCommerce #AI #RetailTech #WalmartGlobalTech #Innovation
