What kind of chat would it be? What questions would the child ask the whale and what answers would the whale share? It happened in Cambridge. Researchers at the University of #Cambridge want to ‘reverse a growing apathy towards #biodiversity loss’. The world’s third oldest university (founded in 1209) is exploring whether generative Artificial Intelligence can help its biodiversity museum. Graduates from the University also observed an interesting AI #insight: ‘people seem to feel more connected to machines when they can talk to them’. SO, INSTEAD OF ASKING ‘HOW CAN AI HELP MY MUSEUM?’ (Wrong Question), They asked ‘How can AI help our visitors?’ (Right Question) and then they asked these even more detailed questions: How can AI help my visitors to: (a) engage with the museum (b) engage with biodiversity ie the variety of life on earth/species diversity etc. (Right Questions) THE AI #MAGIC The research team thought about bringing the specimens to life through AI – in the same way that we previously explored how AI can ‘resurrect’ the dead (see ‘Will Chatbots and Avatars makes us immortal’ (PRSmith.org/Blog). The Cambridge project enables these ‘resurrected animals’ to converse with visitors – as if the ‘specimens were still alive’. HOW TO SCALE-UP PERSONALIZATION (Great Question) Firstly, the conversations can be voice – or text-based to suit all visitors. Secondly, adding ‘Age Adaptive’ functionality (the animals adjust their tone & language to match the visitor’s age). Thirdly, adding ‘Language Adaptive’ functionality (the animals speak in 20 languages) gives access to more visitors. The full post explores this opportunity to connect people with non-human life and confirms the '#Virtuous Cycle of Data in AI'. Until recently I went to conferences looking for content I could take back to Sky to help our marketers raise the bar. This week at MADFest North, there was a shift. I was no longer collecting for others, I was stretched and enriched myself by what is leading to better work and brand outcomes in today's complex and complicated industry landscape. Secondly I was inspired in a way I never expected by connecting with brilliant, like‑minded people who genuinely helped me to shape where I’ll next drive marketing excellence. What a bonus! And what a two days it was. Too many highlights really: 🔥 Loveholidays, On the beach and Hooch (Jacqui Grimsey-Jones, Gareth Harrison, Zoe Harris, Trevor Robinson OBE, Matthew Bulcroft) showing how disruptive, distinctive creativity can drive real impact within the guardrails of a tight creative platform and clear positioning, a reminder that constraint and polarisation can be the catalyst for the most interesting work. 🔥Lloyds and AutoTrader (Ed Turner, Roxanne Nejad, Ben Ducker, Laura McNally) experimenting with AI‑generated creative in the real world and proving that when you blend human judgement with tech, you can unlock speed, scale and next level effectiveness. 🔥Andrew Garrihy on the Chinese long-term view of marketing, plus an uncompromising focus on talent performance and agile, iterative ways of working that drive speed to market and action‑orientation. The clarity of intent was equal parts impressive and terrifying! 🔥CMOs across categories wrestling with effectiveness in an increasingly fragmented landscape; how to lead agencies and balance brand, performance, creativity and experimentation without losing coherence. (Jemma Townsend, Gill Huber, Marianne McGoldrick, Claudia Nicholls-Magielsen) 🔥And Rory Sutherland, reminding us that if you want to change behaviour, you need to understand the psychology of the herd, not just the logic of the individual. Priceless. Two days full of provocation, generosity, and brilliant marketing minds. Huge thank you to Richard Robinson🔥and Ingenuity for the invitation and for staging such an excellent event. And to the wonderful people I had such rich conversations with Sophia Angelis, Mark Hull, Simon Michaelides, Joel Vincent to name but a few. Not every website needs a full-scale SEO audit but here are some clues it might be time for a deep dive: 1) Your site feels slow or clunky, especially on mobile. 2) Pages aren’t showing up where they should in search results. 3) Visitors aren’t staying or converting like you expected. 4) You’ve added tons of content, but it doesn’t seem to be working. 5) Your competitors are pulling ahead, and you’re not sure why.
