This page hosts requests to stewards and global renamers for a username change across the entire Wikimedia network. Please read the instructions before posting a request.

This is also the page where the usurpation of inactive accounts can be requested.

SUL finalization

If you are requesting a merge of a global account with one or more unconnected local accounts as part of finalizing your single unified login (SUL) username, please specify which wikis and accounts you want to merge into your global account. These accounts were typically named "account name~wikiname". Please note that we can only merge a local account into a global account when the global account has no edits on the same wiki as the local account.

Making a request for your own account

For changing your username on one wiki:

Please include the following information in your request:

  • the old username,
  • the new username,
  • please sign ~~~~ request with your account for a simple move (first section), or sign this request with both the originating and the target accounts if you are requesting a merge (second section).

If anything is missing from your request, a steward will request more information. This helps ensure that you are requesting a rename for your own account. Please check before posting your request that the username you want is available.

You can test that by going to the (new) user page and looking into the sidebar. If there is a link to user contributions, the account already exists, or check via Special:CentralAuth.

Private requests

Account renames are not private, once renamed many links from the old username to the new username will be permanently made. The reason submitted on the rename form (Special:GlobalRenameRequest) is private, and only visible by the renamers. Additional information that needs to be made in private may be sent using this direct wiki-email interface while logged-in.


Simple rename requests

If your rename request is simple and does not involve usurpation of an existing account or other SUL issues, you have two options:

  1. Use the request form at Special:GlobalRenameRequest; or
  2. Submit the request below in this section.

Please use this tool to check if the username is taken before filing a request.

Requests involving merges, usurps or other complications

Please add new requests at the end of the section. Sections should be titled your username and requests should be signed by the requesting user.
Please note: Per standard procedure and consensus, accounts with valid edits are not usurped, and the target account must be notified by renamer at least two weeks before usurpation.

Pemathisen

A merge is not possible, but usurpation of the old username can be done. This means the old account would be renamed to "Pmathisen (usurped)", making the username available for Pemathisen. This would not merge the contributions of both accounts, but only involve renaming the accounts. Do you have any evidence to confirm that the Pmathisen account is indeed yours? Is it possible to usurp the new account to "Pemathisen (usurped)"? I would like to keep ny old account. What do you need as proof? As you see I now reply from my other account. I kan also prove it via email. Pemathisen (talk) 22:01, 8 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]
No proof is needed since you have commented from both accounts. My suggestion is that you can use the new account as your alternative account, but if you still want to abandon it, please choose any random username and I will rename it for you. – DreamRimmer ■ 08:38, 17 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]
