Introducing Claude Opus 4.6. Our smartest model got an upgrade. Claude Opus 4.6 plans more carefully, sustains agentic tasks for longer, operates reliably in massive codebases, and catches its own mistakes. And, in a first for our Opus-class models, Opus 4.6 features a 1M token context window in beta. Opus 4.6 can apply its improved abilities to a range of everyday work tasks: running financial analyses, doing research, and using and creating documents, spreadsheets, and presentations. Within Cowork, where Claude can multitask autonomously, Opus 4.6 can put all these skills to work on your behalf. We're also shipping new features and updates: In Claude Code, you can now spin up agent teams that coordinate autonomously. On our API, adaptive thinking and effort controls let Claude calibrate how deeply to reason, while context compaction keeps long-running tasks from hitting walls. Claude in Excel now handles long-running and harder tasks with improved performance. And with Claude in PowerPoint (now in research preview), Claude builds, edits, and iterates on decks in real time. Available today on claude.ai, our API, and all major cloud platforms. Read more: https://lnkd.in/eA-F99xz

Spotify's engineering team built a background coding agent with Claude Agent SDK that handles complex migrations across their massive codebase. Engineers describe what they need in plain text—via Slack, even—and the agent takes it from there, running tests and opening pull requests. They're now merging 650+ agent-generated PRs into production each month. Read more about how they built it, and what else Claude is enabling at Spotify: https://lnkd.in/gVhivXu6

Claude is built to be a genuinely helpful assistant for work and for deep thinking. Advertising would be incompatible with that vision. Read why Claude will remain ad-free: https://lnkd.in/dBq49MzM

Coding agents went from experimental to essential in 2025. What comes next? Our 2026 Agentic Coding Trends Report describes the trends we expect to see as the software development lifecycle is dramatically altered. As capabilities continue to improve, we anticipate single agents evolving into coordinated teams, the barrier between "coders" and "non-coders" growing more permeable, and long-running autonomous agents able to build complete systems. Autonomous doesn't yet mean unsupervised—developers use AI in ~60% of their work but fully delegate only 0-20% of tasks. Productivity gains from agents will continue to reshape the economics of software development in particular, but we also expect to see non-technical teams using agents to build their own tools and automate workflows directly, reshaping how work gets done across entire organizations. On December 8, the Perseverance rover safely trundled across the surface of Mars. This was the first AI-planned drive on another planet. And it was planned by Claude. Engineers at NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory used Claude to plot out the route for Perseverance to navigate an approximately four-hundred-meter path on the Martian surface. Formed in 2009, the Archive Team (not to be confused with the archive.org Archive-It Team) is a rogue archivist collective dedicated to saving copies of rapidly dying or deleted websites for the sake of history and digital heritage. The group is 100% composed of volunteers and interested parties, and has expanded into a large amount of related projects for saving online and digital history.
