Today in Nature Magazine, we've published a new breakthrough algorithm on our Willow quantum chip. The paper features a verifiable quantum advantage demonstration using a measurement known scientifically as an out-of-time-order correlator (OTOC), which we refer to as “Quantum Echoes.” This work paves a path towards real-world quantum applications. “AI represents an extraordinary economic opportunity, and most signs point to labor markets continuing to thrive” — Our chief economist Fabien Curto Millet writes in a new The Washington Post op-ed on AI’s impact on the future of work. Read more.

The Washington Post just published an op-ed on the impact of AI on jobs that Diane Coyle and I co-authored. The historical record shows that technology routinely creates more jobs than it eliminates. We think these lessons are likely to apply to AI. The dire predictions issued in recent years for various occupations have not come to pass. For example, far from being replaced by AI, radiologists are thriving - and incorporating AI into their workflow. However, technology's impacts can be distributed unevenly and certain groups may bear more of the transition costs. How do governments and businesses ensure that workers have the skills and adaptability needed to thrive with this new technology? We discuss some policy options in the piece. AI represents an extraordinary economic opportunity - ensuring that this promise of economic advancement is shared by all requires deliberate action, not wishful thinking or defeatism. https://lnkd.in/geU7mBRA

When I first joined Google, one of the moments that stayed with me was seeing four jazz musicians perform together after meeting for the first time. They shared their secret: internalize the fundamentals, listen closely, and support one another. In the past, work sometimes felt more like a conductor assigning parts. At Google, it feels more like jazz, with each person contributing, adapting, and creating something better together. In my article, I share reflections from my journey from HTC to Google Taiwan, and why now is such an exciting time to build here. One of the most significant opportunities for AI to benefit society is helping to accelerate cancer research and early diagnosis. Just this week our teams, working with partners, shared advances on three fronts: Research breakthroughs: Our C2S-Scale 27B foundation model, built with Yale University and based on Gemma, is a new frontier for single-cell analysis. The tool allows researchers to quickly simulate cell responses to thousands of potential treatments, speeding up the search for new medicines. https://lnkd.in/efr4KnPX Targeted Treatments: We're open-sourcing DeepSomatic, our new model capable of accurately differentiating actual genetic cancer variants from the technical artifacts (or errors) introduced during sequencing, addressing a critical hurdle in developing treatments. DeepSomatic successfully found hard-to-find small variants in pediatric leukemia cells that were missed by other tools. https://lnkd.in/evxkBGup Access to screenings: Color Health, supported by Google.org funding, is launching the Color Assistant to help 20,000 women access breast cancer risk assessments and screening. Powered by Gemini 2.5 models and Vertex AI, the agent quickly determines eligibility for mammograms, schedules breast cancer screenings, and coordinates follow up. Excited about these developments, and look forward to further progress.

What happens next? We took a photo with Lens and asked Nano Banana to generate the next 5 seconds of a scene.  While it’s not predicting the future in a literal sense, the model draws upon its vast world knowledge to generate a plausible outcome in each of these examples. It's a fun peek at how our latest AI image editing model can be used for creative forecasting and storytelling. Nano Banana is now live in Search – accessible through Lens and AI Mode – so you can try this out for yourself! https://lnkd.in/g687z8-K

For Esin, a Senior Account Manager on the GCS Turkiye Mid-Market team, success is built on acting as a trusted partner and advisor — not just a seller. “A common misconception is that account management is purely a sales role focused on targets,” she explains. “In reality, it's deeply consultative. My primary goal is to help my clients solve complex business challenges,” like finding new customers and driving sustainable growth through Google’s latest AI-powered advertising solutions. Her advice for those interested in similar roles? “To succeed as an Account Manager, my best advice is to think like a business partner, not just a marketer,” she says. “Show you understand how to connect marketing objectives to real business outcomes, focusing on what truly impacts your client’s bottom line.” Want to help customers succeed in a job like Esin’s?
