What do AI agents mean for software development? We know software won’t go poof and evaporate. That sounds more like a serverless joke. It’s ephemeral!
Mark Hinkle, CEO and founder of Peripety Labs, unpacks the implications in this episode of The New Stack Makers and discusses what the agents mean for software development and their connections to serverless technologies and other software.

Week in Review: Don’t Stop Thinking About Tomorrow
Perhaps the single greatest thing about the tech world is that it’s, by nature, always looking ahead. Of course, there’s AI and its accompanying innovations. Over the past two weeks, New Stackers have been at two events — the new Human[X] and the annual Nvidia user conference, GTC — dedicated to what’s new on the cutting edge of AI.
But the creators and stewards of older technologies also need to be constantly looking ahead, too, or risk obsolescence.
Take, for example, Java. On Tuesday, Oracle shipped Java 24, the latest version of its 30-year-old workhorse of a programming language. And, as TNS News Editor Darryl K. Taft reported, the new version includes “better support for AI integration, post-quantum cryptography, and performance optimizations.”
Wait, go back. Post-quantum cryptography?!
“While AI has dominated tech discussion recently, Java’s architects are already looking ahead,” Darryl wrote. “‘AI is so yesterday,’ quipped Donald Smith, vice president of product management at Oracle, in an interview. ‘Let’s talk about post-quantum crypto (PQC). That is the new hot topic.’
“This forward-thinking approach has become Java’s hallmark, with engineers already implementing quantum-resistant cryptography algorithms to prepare for a future when traditional methods become obsolete.”
Darryl’s post takes a deep dive into what’s ahead of Java and is well worth a read if Java is one of your go-to languages. It’s wise to stay a step ahead.
