Carbon negative by 2030, emission removal by 2050

Progressing toward our carbon reduction goals
We’ve reduced company emissions by 15.6 million tons of carbon dioxide equivalent.
Direct emission reductions of 9.5 million tons
We cut energy consumption by 10 percent across the 125 buildings on Microsoft’s main campus, reducing carbon emissions as a result.
Internal Carbon Fee
An internal carbon fee implemented in 2012, makes make our business divisions financially responsible for reducing their carbon emissions.
Reducing Microsoft’s Carbon Footprint
New business practices and cloud-enabled technologies lowered our carbon emissions globally.

Microsoft will reduce our water use intensity, while replenishing and increasing water access in water stressed regions where we operate.
