We build our products and services with privacy from the ground up and align them to clear privacy principles. We were early supporters of the European Union's General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the first major tech company to expand GDPR's core rights to all our customers.

There is a balancing act between keeping customers' information private and the legitimate needs of governments and law enforcement to access information to keep the community safe. We've published principles we believe should govern the way they access personal data.

We're putting responsible AI into practice throughout Microsoft. We’ve adopted AI principles to guide how we design, develop, and deploy our products. The Office of Responsible AI—alongside other internal groups—ensures we align to these principles.

New AI technologies like facial recognition have great potential to address societal issues but can interfere with fundamental human rights if misused. We've called for thoughtful government regulation and adopted our own principles and practices for responsible use.
