The aim of this paper is to discuss the limits of the conventional Social Impact Assessment (SIA) approach, and propose the use of a Household and Network Analysis (HNA) for a better comprehension of resource development transformations within local communities and mining regions. In order to address this objective, the critically discusses some of the major limitations of the conventional SIA approach and presents the main features of the HNA as a complementary way for dealing with these shortcomings. It argues that HNA is especially suited to grasp an emic or local population’s perspective in the context of cumulative impacts. ABSTRACT In this study we analyse complete networks derived from field survey and market research through proposing an efficient methodology based on proximity graphs and clustering techniques enhanced with a new community detection algorithm. The specific context is the charity and NotFor-Profit sector in Australia and consumer behaviours within this context. To investigate the performance of this methodology we conduct experiments on the network extracted from a dataset that contains responses of 1,550 individual Australians to 43 questions in a quantitative survey conducted on behalf of the Australian Charities and Not-for-Profits Commission to study the public trust and confidence in Australian charities. Here, we generate the distance matrix by computing the Spearman correlation coefficient as a similarity metric among individuals. Then, several types of k-Nearest Neighbour (kNN) graphs were calculated from the distance matrix and the new community detection algorithm detected groups of consumers by optimizing a quality function called “modularity”. Comparison of obtained results with the results of the BGLL algorithm, a heuristic given by the publicly available package Gephi and the MST-kNN algorithm, a graph-based approach to compute clusters that has several applications in bioinformatics and finance, reveals that our methodology is effective in partitioning of complete graphs and detecting communities. The combined results indicate that behavioural models that investigate trust in charities may need to be aware of intrinsic differences among subgroups as revealed by our analysis.

The Macedonia naming dispute has been an important issue in Greek affairs. It constitutes both an irresolvable, decades-old international problem and a significant, yet undertheorised, analytical topic. In this context, our aim is to critically explore, highlight and discuss the deep-seated and pervasive patterns, representations, attitudes, beliefs, ideas and norms within the Greek social imaginary, as these emerged on Twitter in real-time, during the mass “Macedonia rally” on February 4, 2018. Fault simulator is proposed to understand and evaluate all possible fault propagation scenarios, which is an essential part of safety design and operation design and support of chemical/production processes. Process models are constructed and integrated with fault models, which are formulated in qualitative manner using fault semantic networks (FSN). Trend analysis techniques are used to map real time and simulation quantitative data into qualitative fault models for better decision support and tuning of FSN. The design of the proposed fault simulator is described and applied on experimental plant (G-Plant) to diagnose several fault scenarios. The proposed fault simulator will enable industrial plants to specify and validate safety requirements as part of safety system design as well as to support recovery and shutdown operation and disaster management.
