SPRING 2021 LIBRARY HOURS 

Visit the Library Hours Calendar for the most up-to-date hours information for each of our Libraries. 

Use of library facilities is limited to Holy Cross faculty, staff, and students who are HC Clear

ALL patrons, including faculty and staff, are REQUIRED to swipe in at the circulation desk before being allowed entry.  Please present your Holy Cross ID card for verification of approved access.

LIBRARY ACCESS 

ALL patrons, including faculty and staff, are REQUIRED to swipe in at the circulation desk before being allowed entry.  Please present your Holy Cross ID card for verification of approved access.

 
  • GENERAL INFORMATION. For questions about access, services, or other practical matters, call the Dinand Library Circulation Desk at 508-793-2642
     
  • WHO CAN ACCESS. We reserve the right to ask for identification at any time. 
    • Students, Faculty & Staff: Beginning February 1, the Libraries will be available to all students, faculty and staff who are HC Clear
    • Alumni, Consortium Students & Other Guests: At this time, only current Holy Cross students, faculty and staff are permitted to use our facilities. We are not able to welcome alumni, Worcester Consortium students, or other guests at this time. 
       
  • HEALTH & SAFETY. All students, faculty and staff accessing the Libraries must adhere to the College's health and safety policies. Visit the College COVID site for complete policies for students and faculty/staff.
    • Face coverings that completely cover mouth and nose must be worn at all times in both indoor and outdoor spaces.
    • College issued lanyards with attached HC ID must be worn at all times.
    • Maintain six feet of distance from others, including library staff.
    • Follow appropriate directional signage. Note that both the front and Hogan entrances to Dinand Library will be open, with signage directing the flow of traffic. Please follow this signage to enter and exit the library.
    • Adhere to regulated space occupancy limits. 
       
  • AREAS WITHIN DINAND, SCIENCE and MUSIC
    • All areas in Dinand Library will be open for use during Spring 2021, following all rules for distancing and masks. 
    • The East Wing, Debate Room and Scalia Lab are designated for online class participation with earbuds and distancing, giving students an alternate space for participating in online courses. Talking in a reasonable voice for class participation is acceptable.
    • Study rooms in the basement inner stacks will be single occupancy, with the ones near the browsing room set to double occupancy, the door must remain open due to poor air circulation. Masks must be worn at all times.
    • Archives and Special Collections is open to researchers by appointment only. Call (508) 793-2570 or email archives@holycross.edu for more information. 
    • The Music Library is by-appointment only, 8:30am - 5pm, Monday - Friday.
    • The Worcester Art Museum Library is closed to the public, but students and faculty may still contact our librarian, Rebecca Morin, for research help. And, WAM's book collection is available for checkout. Get details on WAM Library's services here.
       
  • FOOD & DRINK 
    • Approved drinks are permitted in the Libraries, used with a straw under your mask. No food is permitted at this time. 

 

IN-PERSON PICK-UP

Approved Resident and Non-Resident students may use this service to retrieve materials from the Libraries' physical collections, or physical items requested on Interlibrary Loan. Holy Cross Faculty and Staff may also use this service.

This service can also be used to return materials to the Libraries. 

Note that all items requested via this service, even those owned by the Worcester Art Museum, Music or Science Libraries, will be picked up and/or dropped off at Dinand Library. 


  POLICIES: 


In order to use this service, you must: 

  • Wear a face covering; 
  • Follow all other campus health and safety protocols, including social distancing; 
  • If a student, display your approved ID card on a lanyard that is visible to library staff. 

 PICK UP PROCEDURE: 

  1. Request the item(s) you would like to pick up using the ILLiad Document Delivery service. Under Pick-Up Location, choose Pick-Up in Dinand. 
  2. You will be notified by email when the items are ready to be picked up. Turnaround times may vary depending on whether the book is readily on the shelf, whether your book needs to be retrieved from another library and (for ILL) mail delivery. 
  3. After you have been notified, enter the Dinand Library building through the designated entrance. Follow all directional and distancing signage. 
  4. Pick-up your item(s) at the front desk. 

  RETURNS PROCEDURE: 

  1. Enter the Dinand Library building through the designated entrance.
    Remember to: 
    • Wear a face covering; 
    • Follow all campus health and safety protocols, including social distancing and respecting directional signage;
    • If a student, display your approved ID card on a lanyard that is visible to library staff. 
  2. Place your items on the designated returns card in the Dinand Lobby. 

DRIVE- UP TO PICK-UP

Students who live in close proximity to campus may use Drive-up to Pick-up to retrieve materials from the Libraries' physical collections, or physical items requested on Interlibrary Loan. Holy Cross Faculty and Staff may also use this service.

This service can also be used to return materials to the Libraries. 

Note that all items, even those owned by the Worcester Art Museum, Music or Science Libraries, will be picked up and/or dropped off at Dinand Library.

    • Remain in your vehicle at all times. 
  2. Once you are parked, call the Dinand Library Circulation Desk at 508-793-2642 or text at 508-784-1685 and let them know that you have items to return.
  3. A staff member will come out to your car and retrieve the items. 
  4. Once you have returned your items, leave campus immediately.

REMOTE RESEARCH SUPPORT

All of our research librarians are working remotely, and there are lots of different ways for you to reach out for help.

  • CHAT. Available 24/7, with

    • Holy Cross librarians online 9am-5pm EST, Mon-Fri. 

    • Student Research Consultants online 5pm-8pm EST, Sun-Thurs (beginning Feb 1). 

    • Access on our homepage or https://libguides.holycross.edu/ask.

  • EMAIL. Contact your preferred librarian, or, for the quickest response, use our centralized e-mail account, libref@holycross.edu. Librarians are checking this email 7 days a week. For technical issues: Helpdesk-request@holycross.edu, and mention that it is a library related issue. If you can, CC libref@holycross.edu

  • PERSONAL RESEARCH SESSIONS. We are conducting research help sessions remotely, via Zoom, Google Hangout, chat, telephone, or whatever method works for you.
