Open Access

O trabalho tem como objetivo reunir informações no intuito de cumprir uma breve apresentação do tema dos Recursos Educacionais Abertos (REAs) e seu impacto no âmbito pedagógico-educacional. Em uma pesquisa mais aprofundada, analisar como as diretrizes desses recursos podem ser aplicadas academicamente para a distribuição de materiais de estudo e, em um escopo mais específico, como a produção acadêmica do Grupo de Estudos de Direito Autoral e Industrial da UFPR pode ser disponibilizada à comunidade através da política dos REA, em conjunto com o REA Paraná.

Un'emergenza democratica, che coinvolge anche le risorse e le tecnologie digitali, ove in ballo vi è la preservazione della memoria storica nonché l'affermazione e custodia dei diritti fondamentali sanciti dalla Costituzione.

Open data and openness is a phenomenal paradigm shift in the knowledge society. The purpose of the present paper is to identify the open data repositories especially re3data.org. The authors used re3data.org registry as the source for the present study. Re3data.org is a registry which indexes the data repositories, i.e. mainly open data repositories. There were a total of 2327 repositories found during the study. The results of the study indicate that the data repositories consist the research data largely on Science and Technology discipline; the European and North American countries are the major contributors to the data repositories; the repositories indexed in re3data use variety of software; the data sets are mainly available in English language, and the research data repositories widely use the Dublin Core metadata standard.

The present study deals with the use of Open Access Scholarly literature by the research scholars of Karnatak University, Dharwad. The Survey method was employed and questionnaire tool to collect the data from the respondents. A total of hundred questionnaires were distributed, out of which 85 questionnaires were The outcomes of the study: 89.14% respondents are aware of the Open Access resources; majority of the respondents are having positive attitudes towards the Open Access resources; the respondents felt that there is a need to conduct training / orientation programme on the effective use of Open Access resources.

This chapter presents the outcomes, and a concluding reflection to this volume. The chapter starts with an overview of the most salient outcomes of the various chapters. We will then rethink the deeper meaning of the spaces that were opened up in the chapters in terms of innovative metaphors and underlying narratives.

When we seriously try to face today’s ecological problems, they confront us
with difficult questions. In addition to being confronted with uncomfortable
questions about our collective and individual lifestyles, we run into disturbing questions about trusted views on values and sources of meaning. The opening question of this chapter comes from the latter category.

Can we maintain the prevailing anthropocentric approach when dealing with contemporary ecological problems, or do we have to abandon (or mitigate) anthropocentrism somehow?

In principle, this question raises two opposing positions, which are both taken in current discussions. Yes, we can still regard humanity, its survival and its flourishing, as the ultimate goal in our dealings with ecological problems (A). No, there are compelling reasons for recognising human-external interests, worthy of counterbalancing human-centric interests (B).
Both positions are prevalent in contemporary discourses on sustainability
issues. Individuals, who claim that our western lifestyle remains compatible
with sustainability provided some adjustments are implemented, can be considered as representatives of position (A). Even an author like Van Egmond (2019), who advocates a much less materialistic culture and lifestyle, sees the survival of ‘human nature’ and the ‘human telos’ as the ultimate motives for sustainability.
On the other side of the debate, we can consider the young adherents of
‘Extinction Rebellion’ (https://rebellion.earth) and all their sympathisers as
representatives of position (B). Authors who publish on the topic of sustainability, such as Boersema (2001) and Kunneman (2017), subscribe to this position as a consequence of their critical reinterpretations of either biblical or humanist traditions.

As a former mathematics and physics teacher, I felt challenged to make the
tradition of the physical sciences – sciences for which it is characteristic
that they use mathematics as their preferred language – the subject of my
research. One of the lines of argument in my PhD thesis (Lengkeek, 2016)
ended in the conclusion that mathematics and physical sciences, in their historical interaction with religious and philosophical worldviews, have mainly reinforced views on humanity and nature that correspond with position (A). In addition, the reinforcement of these views has, to this day, gained in persuasiveness thanks to a wealth of successful technological applications.
For me, these conclusions raised the question whether an alternative
thread could be identified in the tradition of those sciences that matches
position (B). The line of reasoning that I followed led me to regions of ‘Copenhagen’ interpretations of physics (Wigner, 1960; Zeilinger, 2003) and ‘relativistic’ interpretations of mathematics (Poincaré, 1910; Wittgenstein, 2001).
This opening question, and critical interpretations of the physical science
tradition that fit within the perspective of this question, remained a source of fascination for me, as this chapter will show.

The current study aims at assessing communication between librarians and users in the library of Al-Hussein bin Talal University from users' perspectives themselves. It shows the characteristics of qualitative-quantitative research by adapting the Sequential Explanatory strategy. It recommends that libraries leaders should pay attention to the necessity of holding training sessions for employees on how to communicate with users with disabilities. In addition, the researcher has found related reasons for problem in communication from outside sources. The probable causes of communications gap occur when there is a difference between service delivery intentions and what is communicated, as mentioned in SERVQUAL model descriptions of gaps.

Resumo Refletindo acerca do papel da Ciência da Informação na produção, armazenamento e disseminação da informação científica, essa pesquisa visou o estudo de repositórios institucionais (RIs) das universidades federais brasileiras. Para o funcionamento adequado deste ambiente digital, uma condição fundamental é que as formas de representação e descrição dos recursos informacionais estejam padronizadas, a fim de permitir a interoperabilidade entre sistemas informacionais. Os metadados são apontados como ferramenta para a representação da informação em ambientes informacionais. Questiona-se em que medida ocorre a construção padronizada da representação de metadados em RIs, que garanta o acesso e a recuperação dos recursos informacionais armazenados. Propõe-se um conjunto de diretrizes funcionais que poderão ser utilizados na representação da informação, podendo ser um ponto de partida para a reflexão da construção padronizada da representação da informação em repositórios institucionais. Modelagem de dados. 1 INTRODUÇÃO Considerando o contexto tecnológico o qual tem se estabelecido a Ciência da Informação, marcado pelo uso intensivo das Tecnologias da Informação e Comunicação (TIC), essa pesquisa explora o crescente avanço científico atual brasileiro, propondo o estudo dos repositórios institucionais das universidades federais brasileiras. Nesse contexto, os repositórios institucionais aparecem como ambientes informacionais provedores de dados digitais, destinados a gerenciar, reunir, armazenar e a disseminar a produção científica de uma instituição, promovendo assim a preservação da memória científica institucional. Para adequado funcionamento e utilização deste ambiente digital, uma condição fundamental é que as formas de representação e de descrição dos recursos informacionais estejam padronizadas, a fim de permitir a recuperação da informação e a interoperabilidade entre os sistemas informacionais. Para isso, conta-se com a utilização dos metadados como ferramenta para a otimização da representação da informação na Web. Dessa forma, questiona-se em que medida existe a preocupação com a construção e a representação padronizada de metadados em repositórios institucionais, a fim de garantir o acesso e a recuperação aos recursos informacionais armazenados em diversas instâncias.

Em função das transformações tecnológicas no campo da Catalogação Descritiva, em especial no domínio bibliográfico, com
o desenvolvimento de modelos conceituais, como os Functional Requirements for Bibliographic Records (Requisitos Funcionais
para Registros Bibliográficos) e a proposta das orientações Resource Description and Access (Descrição de Recursos e Acesso)
para a descrição de recursos, faz-se necessário compreender de que maneira essas iniciativas se relacionam com os repositórios
institucionais digitais. O objetivo desta pesquisa foi o estudo dos Functional Requirements for Bibliographic Records e das Resource
Description and Access estabelecidos no domínio bibliográfico, a fim de identificar o estado da arte sobre as tendências do
domínio bibliográfico e a possibilidade de aplicá-los a repositórios institucionais digitais. O aporte teórico e metodológico da
Revisão Sistemática da Literatura propiciou o mapeamento e a identificação de elementos-chave para responder à questão
de pesquisa. Foram analisados vinte e cinco documentos na Revisão Sistemática da Literatura, o que pode ser considerado
um índice relativamente baixo sobre a produção científica condizente à proposta de pesquisa e à necessidade de estudos
mais aprofundados acerca do tema. Foram identificadas tecnologias computacionais, casos de uso e aplicações específicas em
ambientes bibliográficos, acadêmicos e na Web. Sublinha-se que o estado da arte construído se apresenta como um ponto
de partida para o dese

Open Access is a trend started in the world of Information which makes scholarly publications available online, free of cost or any other barriers. The largest and authoritative gold road OA database is the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) indexing all the standard OA journals meeting the DOAJ criteria of inclusion. The findings of the study carried on DOAJ unveils that the LIS journals in open access mode have signified their presence throughout the globe in 43 countries. The highest number of OA LIS journals in DOAJ has been found to be published from the U.S. whereas; India contributes only one OA LIS journal. The majority of the LIS journals prefer PDF formats. It was also observed that majority of the OA LIS journals have not mentioned their plagiarism policy. Studies also revealed that a majority of the LIS journals do not charge Author Processing Charges (APC). Majority of the LIS journals do not possess the DOAJ seal while Double-blind peer reviewing is significantly followed in DOAJ LIS journals. English was found to be the most prominent language as the medium of dissemination."

New forms of networked participation and open access in education and scholarship offer great opportunities to expand learning and growth. At the same time, they must flourish and compete in a world of great inequality that is fraught with contradictions.
Open access in itself cannot solve the issues of unequal representation in science and scholarship; nor can it solve the tensions between the market and the commons that are inherent in the fluid and unstable global knowledge ecosystem, both of which are compounded by divisions between the Global South and Global North. In fact, this
chapter argues that some innovations in openness, such as open access to scholarly publishing, can actually exacerbate those very tensions and inequalities in the system.
