Innovation Management

Today, most companies have difficulties in following and meeting customer expectations. In a fast-changing business environment, companies can achieve a sustainable competitive advantage only by increasing their performance. The importance given to innovation and the success of the implementation of innovation management can provide the companies means to improve their performance.
The main purpose of this study is to determine whether innovation has any impact on company performance. The Innovation Scale developed by Gunday and his colleagues (2011) and the Company Performance Scale developed by Karabag (2008) are brought together to create a new scale to investigate the relationship between effectiveness of innovation and company performance. As a data collection tool, the researcher used the survey method.  The target group decided by convenience is formed by the white-collar employees of companies operating in the automotive industry in the city of Bursa, Turkey. The sample consists of 160 employees from 59 different companies. As a result of the study, for the accessed sample, two important conclusions were obtained which showed the impact of innovation on company performance: (1) Marketing innovation has a statically positive impact on company performance; and (2) Process innovation has a statically positive impact on company performance.
With this study, it is envisaged to reveal the impact of innovation on company performance and by bringing the existing research a step further, to contribute to future academic research.

ABSTRACT Open source is the future model for delivering IT and even companies like Microsoft are moving towards open source community. Open source software contributes in meaningful ways to the economic development of a country. However, while many countries worldwide have already embraced open source solutions, the trend has remained to a large extent, a phenomenon for the developed economies. This paper proposes an Information and Communications Technology (ICT) framework with concrete policy measures, for individual users, companies and developers, that can help boost the use of open source software in developing countries and hence leverage the benefits inherent in such software to create sustainable development and support local technology innovation. The proposal is supported by results from a survey that was carried out in 2011 in Mauritius, a developing country, where responses were gathered from 100 respondents which include policy makers, people from the industry and academia, and students.

This paper addresses the general theme of conservation and/or change of heritage sites in urban and regional planning. The particular focus is on the management of UNESCO industrial World Heritage sites in Europe. Industrial heritage refers back to historic innovation and continues to be embedded today in innovation-orientated urban and regional development. The question that our study examines is: In which aspects does the management of an industrial World Heritage site coincide with (or differ from) that of areas of innovation? We identified criteria both for the management of industrial heritage sites ("Good Practice Wheel") and areas of innovation (suc-cess factors for European Science and Technology Parks). In an online survey, we asked managers of heritage sites to evaluate management criteria. Completed survey responses were obtained for 22 of 38 European sites (58%) in 12 of 15 countries concerned (80%). Our study clearly shows an overlap of conservation and innovation priorities even in the management of UNESCO industrial World Heritage sites, and underlines the importance of integrative, "good" heritage management.

Este libro trata de contribuir al conocimiento teórico-práctico acerca de las posibilidades reales existentes para el desarrollo de emprendimientos innovaciones en las empresas, en particular las de países en vías de desarrollo. Se hace un recuento de la experiencia del Laboratorio de Telecomunicaciones (Grupo de Investigación y Desarrollo Tecnológico) creado en 1971 en la empresa de telecomunicaciones de Venezuela (CANTV). Se presenta un breve recorrido histórico de las actividades, enfoques y experiencias que un grupo de jóvenes innovadores tuvo que enfrentar para organizarlo y ponerlo en pleno funcionamiento. También se relaciona esta experiencia con el conocimiento actual de la teoría y la práctica de la gestión exitosa de la innovación

Innovation is the fundamental source of value creation in organizations. Despite its importance, many companies fail to systematize the innovation process. The innovation process depends on a complex combination of factors related to organizational culture, which are not easily identified. This paper proposes a collaborative approach to identify innovation factors by using the group storytelling approach to capture organizational knowledge.

Research underlined that Small and Medium Enterprises' performance is enhanced by different types of innovation capabilities. This research tends to present a comprehensive model to explain the relationship between innovation capabilities and SMEs' financial and operational performance. Specifically, this study tends to achieve three objectives: explores the set of product, process, organizational and marketing innovation capabilities possessed by owners/managers of SMEs and their impact on Chinese manufacturing SMEs' operational and financial performance dimensions, identify the determinants of innovation capabilities, and determine the contextual factors that moderate innovation capabilities and SMEs' performance. This research employed a qualitative research method using in-depth interviews with eight owners/managers of Chinese manufacturing SMEs. Research findings revealed that product and marketing innovation capabilities have a significant impact on SMEs' financial performance while process and organizational innovation capabilities positively influence SMEs' operational performance. The major determinants of innovation capabilities involved availability of sufficient organizational resources, entrepreneurial orientation, knowledge development and external networks. The contextual moderating factors on the relationship between innovation capabilities and SMEs' performance involved internal factors which are: SME size, SMEs' owner/manager work experience, entrepreneurial mindset; and external factors: market dynamism and cooperation strategies. This paper ends by drawing some concluding remarks and proposing future research avenues.

Fishbone diagram is a graphical technique to show the several causes of a specific event. Fishbone diagram is applied here as a novel method of graphical representation to identify, explore and analyse the sources of innovation and especially general purpose technologies (GPTs). Firstly, the study here shows the driving forces of GPTs, such as: higher democratisation, high investment in R&D, etc. Secondly, these drivers of GPTs and in general of new technology are systematised within fishbone diagrams for technological analysis. Some examples are illustrated by applying the fishbone diagram to specific GPTs, such as steam engine and information and communication technologies (ICTs). Overall, then, fishbone diagram seems to be an appropriate and general technique of graphical representation for the technological analysis and foresight of path-breaking innovation in society.

ABSTRACT Due to the ageing of the world population, the demand for technology innovations in healthcare is growing rapidly. All stakeholders (e.g., patients, healthcare providers and health industry) can take profit of innovative products, but the development degenerates often into a time consuming and cost-intensive process. Prospective Health Technology Assessment (ProHTA) is a new approach that combines the knowledge of an interdisciplinary team and uses simulation techniques to indicate the effects of new innovations early before the expensive and risky development phase begins. In this paper, we describe an approach with loosely coupled system dynamics and agent-based models within a hybrid simulation environment for ProHTA as well as a use-case scenario with an innovative stroke technology. The project ProHTA is a part of the Centre of Excellence for Medical Technology and is supported by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), project grant No. 01EX1013B.

ABSTRACT The purpose of the study is to find out the growth and development of research productivity in service innovation (SI) in the world during the period of 2001-2011. Firstly, we explore the overall growth of SI research, and then investigate cross-country comparisons in its research performances, with the focus on the world share, relative research effort, impact and quality of top ten productive countries. Furthermore, we develop productive institution index, productive author index and productive journal index in the field of SI. The data was retrieved using Web of Science (WOS) database. The cross-country comparisons show that USA is the leading country and has the biggest world share of SI research.

The research aims mainly to measure the impact of innovation management on the sustainability of the organization in Ramallah District. In order to achieve the main objective of the research, as well as answering the main question, the research in considered as exploratory research in which it tends to explore the reality of implementing the innovation management and describing the impact of that reality on the sustainability of the organization. For this regard, the research used the quantitative method through designing a questionnaire that has been distributed over 4 big size companies in Ramallah district, which are: Jawwal, Wataniyeh, Arab Bank and Palestine Bank. However, the questionnaire has been distributed over 15 employees in each company different between the level of management. The purpose of selecting this sample of organizations is to compare between the service companies and financial companies in term of the innovation management and its impact on sustainability.
The results of the statistical analysis as well as the results of the multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA), have confirmed the premise that sustainability practices positively influence the organizational performance. As such, the study provides empirical evidence indicating that organization can benefit by developing and deploying sustainability-oriented innovation practices. As well, the results of analysis in the table above indicated that there were no significant differences at α=0.05 for the impact of innovation management on the survival, competition and sustainability of the organization in Ramallah district according to the gender. In addition, the results indicated that there were no significant differences at α=0.05 for the impact of innovation management on the survival, competition and sustainability of the organization in Ramallah district according to the Education level. The study recommends that the management of each company whatever was its type of work should work on developing its strategy towards allow with wide range the innovation of its employees, which will be reflected on the organizational internal and external reputation and sustainability. Moreover, with regard to the technological innovation in the world nowadays, the company should adapt with all needed technological practices in its work, which will allow the company to be innovative throughout its employees ideas toward developing the company’s activities in an innovative way, it is a must for companies work in a fast changeable environment.

Innovative software can secure the position of a company among the competition. The implementation of innovative software is, however, anything but simple. Although the technical aspects are more obvious, this is because organizational aspects are predominant. Too many software projects fail because the implementation does not succeed, despite meeting technical requirements. In this light, the research objective of the master's thesis is to find risks and success factors for the implementation of innovative software in companies, to formulate a strategy and in this process to determine the importance of key persons. The study reveals the current status, prospects, and challenges of ride-sharing services in Bangladesh. The current status and prospects are analyzed from the viewpoint of customers and users with a sample of 200 and the challenges have been traced from the business perspective with a sample of 10 executives of different ride-sharing organizations. There are 177 and 8 respondents from the sample of 200 and 10 respectively. It has gained an immense acceptance among the young generations and businesses due to its distinct prospects, for instance, real-time response, more convenient, on-demand location, user-friendliness, and so on. The major challenges have been identified as fund shortage, lack of logistic support, lack of awareness, adverse government policies, intense competition and so forth.

This study investigated students' perception towards acceptance of digital transformation in teaching-learning activities studying at different levels in Kathmandu valley (includes 3 districts: Kathmandu, Lalitpur, and Bhaktapur), Nepal. Using the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) as a research framework to examine the factors affecting how students come to accept and use technology. The literature review indicated that social influence, accessibility, computer self-efficacy, infrastructure, and perceived enjoyment were the most common external factors of TAM. A total of 384 students were participated in the study. Different statistical analyses have been performed in order to test the significance of the considered factors that may affect the digital learning practices of students. The result of the data analysis revealed that social influence, accessibility, computer self-efficacy, infrastructure, and enjoyment have a significant impact on perceived ease of use of the digital learning system. Furthermore, social influence, accessibility, computer self-efficacy, infrastructure, and enjoyment were also found to have a positive influence on the perceived usefulness of the digital learning system. The Digital learning system is changing the traditional practice of learning with technology and innovation. The study support that using digital tools in education makes academic activities more interesting, easy to access, creative, effective, and productive.
