Ottoman Balkans

The article regards the advantages and setbacks of being bilingual when it comes to foreign women teachers and writers who contributed to the Bulgarian national project from the 1860s to the 1920s. They are the Serbian teacher Rahil Barak Dushanova (1845-1888), the Czech teacher and journalist Bogdana Iraskova Hiteva (1844-1929), and the second generation Bulgarian émigré in Romania Evgenia Mihailova Vassileva (1852-1926) who was a poet, journalist and writer. First, the article distinguishes the types of bilingualism for each case, attributing a coordinate type to Bogdana Hiteva and Rahil Dushavova, and a subordinate one to Ekaterina Vassileva, who did not feel comfortable to write in Bulgarian. She wrote her texts in Romanian or French. Then the paper follows the biographical path of each of these women in order to distinguish their positioning in the receiving country, as well as the strategy of adaptation and inclusion into Bulgarian society. In the Bulgarian literary history the identity of a bilingual woman writer has fewer chances for posthumous inclusion into the literary canon due to her unstable and transitive identity. The conclusion of the paper is that those women who managed to claim sufficiently their newly achieved and sustained Bulgarian identity have better chances for future remembrance. Large parts of their heritage needs a new, non-nationalistic research methodology that takes into consideration their impact both in the reception country and in the country of origin.

ISLAM U KRUŠEVU (GORA): KRATKA HISTORIJA Prihvatanje islama u Gori Jedan od najvaţnijih događaja u cjelokupnoj historiji Gore i Kruševa predstavlja prihvatanje islama od strane domaćeg stanovništva. Prelazak na islam nije bio nagao već je tekao postepeno i nije nametan od strane vlasti. To potvrđuju i turski defteri, prema kojima se moţe pratiti ovaj proces koji je trajao od početka 16. do druge polovine 17. vijeka i doprinosio stabilizaciji i povećanju stanovništva, što je suprotno tvrdnjama mnogih autora da je "islamizacija" u Gori nasilno izvršena u vrijeme Kukli-bega i Sinan-paše. Prema historijskim dokumentima, Kukli-beg je umro 1538. godine, kada je, na osnovu turskih deftera, broj muslimana u Gori bio neznatan. Islam je potpuna vjera koja ljudima daje odgovor na svako pitanje i u svakom aspektu ljudskog ţivota. Iako ne odmah i ne u velikim masama, narod je s ljubavlju prigrlio ovu vjeru, jer su tu našli utočište mira. Islam treba shvatiti kao jedan potpuno novi i kompletni način ţivota, novu filozofiju koja daje svoje viđenje svijeta, te metode i načine rješavanja problema, bili oni privatne ili društvene prirode. Islam je vodič, kojim se sluţe oni koji su ga prihvatili, a istima pruţa mogućnost boljitka u svim sferama ljudskog ţivljenja. Nišan-ploča u selu Mlike potvrđuje da je islam u Gori bio prisutan i prije dolaska Osmanlija na Balkan. Vjerovatno se radi o doseljenicima iz Halepa u Siriji, na što upućuje i ime roda Alepovci iz ovog sela. Međutim, na prvom popisu koji su izvršile osmanske vlasti u Gori 1452/53. godine nije bilo popisanih muslimana. 1 Prema turskom defteru iz 1530. godine 2 u selima Gore javljaju se muslimanske porodice, što znači da je islam ovdje u kontinuitetu prisutan najmanje pet stoljeća. Prema ovom defteru, u selu Orčikle je 6 muslimanskih porodica, dok u selu Mlike od 9 porodica četiri su mislimanske. The complete analysis of the Bulgarian folk song with a motif “A virgin rescues Malta” shows that it was created in the year 1645 CE by an unknown author. Every element in the song relates to the circumstances, places and people of two distant events, which are known both to the author and the intended audience, for whom the vivid characters and memorable images of the song convey a hidden message. The message concerns the Bulgarians and the Order of Malta during the time of the Grand Masters Ioannes de Valette and Ioannes Paulus Lascaris. The analysis of the folk song proves that the unknown author, besides being well-read and extremely erudite, knows to perfection the principles of steganography, coding and the creation of self-supporting and self-developing systems.

L'Albanie dans l'imaginaire européen des XVIe - XIXe siècle

L’Albanie est demeurée longtemps l’un des endroits européens les plus méconnus. Aux yeux des étrangers, ce petit coin des Balkans qui, depuis la fin du XVe siècle, était resté pendant presque cinq cents ans sous la domination ottomane était un mystérieux avant-poste de l’Islam au cœur de l’Europe.
Ce livre trace des chemins dans l’imaginaire littéraire et artistique qui a façonné la représentation de l’Albanie dans la culture européenne. Le voyage s’étend du XVIe siècle, lorsque les gestes du seigneur George Castriota Scanderbeg, combattant contre l’expansionnisme turc dans les Balkans, firent l’objet d’œuvres théâtrales et fictionnelles, jusqu’au début du XXe siècle, passant par les innombrables représentations littéraires et figuratives qui en firent un terrain d’aventures, égayées par les magnifiques costumes pour lesquels les Albanais étaient admirés dans toute la Méditerranée.
Le titre de ce voyage au pays des Skipetares reproduit un terme utilisé par Alexandre Dumas, l’un des nombreux écrivains qui puisèrent à la « matière d’Albanie » — comme on peut nommer le vaste répertoire des sujets albanais étoffant la création artistico-littéraire internationale.

Las primeras batallas de la Guerra de Crimea no se libraron en aquella región, sino a lo largo del Danubio, en el mar Negro y en las fronteras del Cáucaso. Al igual que en las demás guerras ruso-otomanas, el teatro danubiano o balcánico del conflicto fue el más importante para ambos imperios. Hasta abril de 1854, cuando Francia y Gran Bretaña entraron en la guerra del lado otomano, esta no fue más que otro conflicto ruso-turco. Rusia inició la guerra de facto al cruzar la frontera del río Prut y ocupar los principados danubianos (los dominios otomanos de Moldavia y Valaquia) en julio de 1853. La Sublime Puerta declaró la guerra a Rusia el 4 de octubre tras largas negociaciones diplomáticas. Los otomanos optaron por una estrategia defensiva y su ejército regular combatió bien contra las fuerzas rusas; demostró que, bajo un liderazgo acertado, era capaz de frenar las ofensivas enemigas e incluso pasar al contraataque.

Bu yüksek lisans tezi çalışması Tuna Nehri üzerinde yer alan ve ticaret bağlamında Osmanlı İmparatorluğu’nun önemli sancaklarından birisi olan Silistre Sancağı’nın 1788-1792 tarihlerindeki gümrük verilerinden hareketle Silistre ticaretine ışık tutmayı ve Osmanlı İmparatorluğu’nun ticaret yapısı hakkında bir örneklem oluşturmayı amaçlamak üzere kaleme alınmıştır. Bu amaçtan hareketle, İstanbul BOA. D. BMK. SLM. tasnifinde yer alan ve söz konusu dört yılı kapsayan 22657 (32 sayfa), 22661 (32 sayfa), 22665 (22 sayfa) ve 22659 (26 sayfa) numaralı defterler arşivden temin edilmiş, transk-ript edilmiş ve sonrasında içerdikleri veriler incelenerek analize tabi tutularak yorumlanmıştır. Söz konusu defterlerin içerdikleri verilerden Silistre’de tica-ret yapan tüccarlar, Silistre ticaretinde ticarete konu olan mallar, Silistre tica-retinde ticarete konu olan malların gümrüğü bıraktıkları vergiler ve nihaye-tinde Silistre Gümrüğü’nün dört yıllık gelir-gider dengesi incelenerek Silist-re’nin ticari yapısının dört yıllık bir fotoğrafı çekilmiştir. Bu ticaret, Osman-lı’nın söz konusu dönemdeki ticari yapısı için de bir örneklem oluşturmakta-dır. Bu tez çalışması sonucunda elde edilen en genel sonuçlar, Silistre tica-retinde Müslüman tüccarların ezici bir ağırlıkta bulunduğu, ticaret mallarının ağırlıklı olarak tüketim mallarından (gıda) oluştuğu, gıda malları ve bazı ara mallarının gümrüğe en çok vergiyi bıraktığı ve nihayetinde söz konusu dö-nemde Silistre Gümrüğü’nün gelirlerinin giderlerinden fazla olduğu şeklin-de belirtilebilir.
