Jetpack Backup allows you to easily restore or download a backup of your site from a specific moment in time. It’s like having a powerful undo button for your WordPress.
Activating Backups
Jetpack Backup is currently only available for Jetpack sites hosted at Pressable or DreamHost and for those who have purchased the Jetpack Backup product. You can add Jetpack Backup starting at Jetpack → Dashboard → Plans in your WP Admin dashboard.
How It Works
If your site has been damaged by accidental deletion or some other crisis, you can simply visit its Activity and restore to any backup, provided that you’ve added remote access credentials.

Jetpack backs up your content, settings, uploads, themes, and plugins — intelligently, and seamlessly. When disaster strikes, you can easily restore things to working order at the single click of a button.
Jetpack Backup is activated and the first backup is created as soon as you complete the plan purchase. You should then immediately add remote access credentials. You will see this prompt at the top of the site’s Activity:

You can also add these credentials at any time at Manage → Settings → Security in your WordPress.com dashboard.
If your credentials stop working at any point, you will receive an email notification alerting you that backups are not working properly.
You’ll know that your site is being successfully backed up when you see the entry in your site’s Activity:

Clicking on the ellipsis (the three dots on the right) will display the options to restore or download a backup. Only events logged after adding your server credentials can be used as restore points.
For real-time backups, it’s also important to note that only certain events can be used for point-restores. Generally, these include events like page and post creation/modification, comment submission/modification, plugin and theme installations, modifications, or updates, and additions of or changes to user accounts.

Formed in 2009, the Archive Team (not to be confused with the archive.org Archive-It Team) is a rogue archivist collective dedicated to saving copies of rapidly dying or deleted websites for the sake of history and digital heritage. The group is 100% composed of volunteers and interested parties, and has expanded into a large amount of related projects for saving online and digital history.
