History of the USSR

Soviet arcade machines were based on foreign models and were produced in the USSR from the 1970s to the beginning of the 1990s. Arcade machines often were installed in amusement parks, cinemas, young pioneer camps and were available throughout the country. Despite the wide distribution, by the mid- 2000s, arcade machines mostly were not in a working condition. Today, the Museum of Soviet Arcade Machines is engaged in the finding and restoration process of arcade games.

This paper presence an overview of arcade machines (also known as “playing”, “gaming”, and “small scale amusement arcades”) emergence in the Soviet Union, their ‘customization’ for the purposes of the then-existing regime and perception by the society. 

Celem tej pracy jest przedstawienie początków systemu prawa ochrony konkurencji Federacji Rosyjskiej po rozwiązaniu ZSRR. Z powodu odziedziczonej po systemie centralnego planowania monopolistycznej gospodarki powstająca wtedy regulacja rynku miała wyjątkowy charakter. Oprócz pozbawienia pozycji dominującej radzieckich monopoli organy ochrony konkurencji nadzorować musiały przekształcenie struktury własnościowej z publicznej na prywatną. Pomimo gospodarczych i politycznych utrudnień w okresie transformacji udało się skonstruować kompletny system prawa ochrony konkurencji. Podsumowanie pracy stanowi ocena funkcjonowania tej regulacji dokonana z perspektywy czasu.

32 роки тому в Радянському Союзі була скасована сталінська заборона згадувати загальносоюзний голод, який знищив мільйони людей в Україні, на Кубані, в Поволжі, Казахстані. 31 рік тому конгресово-президентська комісія США з розслідування українського голоду 1932-1933 рр. на чолі з виконавчим директором Джеймсом Мейсом дійшла висновку про його геноцидну природу.

Нині маємо більше двох десятків тисяч публікацій про цей голод, заснованих на архівних матеріалах і свідченнях тих, хто вижив. Вони розкривають усі нюанси створеної сталінською командою ситуації абсолютного голодування. Правда про ретельно прихований жахливий злочин тодішнього керівництва ВКП(б) вийшла на поверхню.

The authors publish and analyze newly found archival documents on the first years of the academic Institute of History (1936–1941). The most interesting feature is the project of 1939 on the foundation of two separate research institutions: the Institute of History of the USSR and the Institute of World History. The authors analyze the reasons for appearance of this project, and argue that the reasons which caused refusal of this project were administrative and economic ones.

Статья посвящена реконструкции биографии одного из крупных деятелей Белого движения на востоке России — генерал-майора С. А. Домонтовича. Автору удалось найти в архивах послужной список Домонтовича, который публикуется в приложении к статье. Выявленный исторический источник позволил уточнить биографию С. А. Домонтовича в период Первой мировой и Гражданской войн. В частности, удалось развеять такие укоренившиеся в биографических справочниках мифы, как участие С. А. Домонтовича в антибольшевистском подполье в Екатеринбурге летом 1918 г. и в Ижевско-Воткинском восстании.

Сборник документов вводит в научный оборот новые источники о состоянии фронта и тыла колчаковской армии в период военных поражений и крушения белого дела на Востоке России. Первый раздел сборника составляют информационные сводки контрразведывательного отделения штаба Западной (3-й) армии о настроении войск и населения прифронтовой полосы. Во втором разделе публикуются рапорты тайного агента французской разведки Э.В. Земана, работавшего в колчаковском тылу под оперативным псевдонимом «Джон».
Книга адресована как профессиональным историкам, так и всем, кто интересуется историей Гражданской войны в России.

Da generalstaben i Moskva i mars 1944 begynte å planlegge operasjoner på nordflanken av den sovjettyske fronten, fikk stabsoffiserene mye å gjøre. Generalene Antonov og Sjtemenko, som ble betrodd oppdraget med å utvikle planer for frigjøringen av Nord-Norge, besøkte Stalin daglig, enten i Kreml eller på hans datsja i Kuntsevo. I slutten av mars 1944, ga Antonov ordre til Sjtemenko om å besøke Stalin i Kuntsevo, som igjen ville se på kartene for operasjoner i den fjerne nordlige enden av sovjetfronten. El primer gobierno peronista (1946-1955) llevó adelante una política exterior diferente de la de sus predecesores. La política exterior de la Tercera Posición buscaba aumentar el margen de maniobra de la Argentina frente a ambas potencias mundiales, los Estados Unidos y la Unión Soviética, para permitir el desarrollo del proyecto del Justicialismo dentro del país. Para mantener la soberanía política y la independencia económica, y así garantizar la justicia social, era necesario ubicar a la Argentina fuera de las esferas de influencia de las dos grandes  superpotencias de la posguerra. Pero para realizar esta política era necesario mantener el diálogo con ambas potencias.

This presentation focuses on the system of design institutions and production industry of sporting goods existing in the USSR since early 60s to the late 80s with a main focus on sport clothes and shoes design and production, it's paradoxes and problems. My empirical research included written and visual sources, like fashion magazines and publications for industry employees, and interviews with fashion institution employees,  privileged and average consumers.

In the 1920s, the young Soviet Republic, rejecting the old social system, turned to the study of the past. Instead of engaging with professional historians, the new regime initiated a whole range of large-scale participatory projects incorporated into political and public institutions to produce new, revolutionary history. In this article, instead of approaching this topic in terms of ideology and memory I put it in the context of history of science. Focusing on the case of trade unions, I suggest considering the early Soviet non-academic history-writing as a form of radical citizen science. Even though trade unionists had no special education, they dared to use scientific methods in their research that ended with positive results. This story allows us to question the opposition between amateurs and professionals in the field of citizen science.
