For AD Connector, choose the 'Small' size to connect to a directory of up to 10,000 total directory objects including groups, users, and computers. Choose the 'Large' size to connect to a directory of up to 100,000 total directory objects including groups, users, and computers.
For Simple AD, choose the 'Small' size for directories that will contain up to a total of 2,000 directory objects including groups, users, and computers. The ‘Small’ size supports a workload of ~500 users. Choose the 'Large' size for directories that will contain up to a total of 20,000 directory objects including groups, users, and computers. The ‘Large’ size supports a workload of ~5,000 users.
You can try AWS Directory Service for free. If you’ve never created an AWS Directory Service directory, you’re eligible for a free trial of a Small Directory (Simple AD or AD Connector) for 750 hours of usage, enough hours to continuously run the directory for 30 days. Any free hours that remain unused at the end of the 30 days after you create the Small Directory will expire. Once your free trial expires or your usage exceeds 750 hours, you will be charged for your directory at our standard On-Demand Rate.
If you use Amazon WorkSpaces, Amazon WorkDocs, or Amazon WorkMail in conjunction with AWS Directory Service, you will not be charged for either Simple AD or AD Connector directories registered with these services, as long as you have a sufficient number of active users of Amazon WorkSpaces, Amazon WorkDocs, or Amazon WorkMail. Each month, for Small Directories registered with these services there must be at least 1 active user, and for Large Directories there must be at least 100 active users, to avoid being charged for AWS Directory Service that month.
