Most people don’t think about how they’ll get paid until the work is already done. The project wraps. The email goes out. Then comes the quiet question: how does the money actually move from there to here? Different country. Different currency. Different rules. For a lot of contractors, that’s where things slow down. Invoices get revised. Payment methods go back and forth. Someone suggests wire. Someone else prefers something else. Days turn into weeks. It doesn’t have to feel that complicated. If you’re working with international clients, the basics should stay simple: send a clear invoice, in the right currency, through a setup your client already understands. Then get paid, without needing to think about compliance, conversions, or where you’re technically “operating.” That’s where Ruul fits in. It lets you invoice clients and get paid in 140 currencies, without turning every project into a payment puzzle. The work is already global. Getting paid should be too.

About us
In the late fall of 2016, Ruul’s story began in Istanbul, founded by two siblings Esen and Mert Bulut. The company emerged from a straightforward but pressing problem. Mert, an independent, had grown frustrated with frequent payment issues. This frustration led to an idea, prompting him to bring his sister Esen, a finance director at a leadingholding company, on board. By the end of 2017, Ruul was ready to tackle a critical issue: helping independents work with business clients and get paid promptly by acting as a reseller. Coined as "Agent of Record for Independents" by its founders, Ruul’s innovative approach redefined how independents work with businesses globally. Operating in 190 countries and supporting 140 currencies, Ruul provides an Agent of Record solution for contractors and businesses, making it simple for them to work together. By 2026, Ruul has become a trusted ally for over 200k independents. Guided by its vision of accelerating independence, Ruul continues to shape a fairer and more accessible independent economy for those carving their own path.

Most companies still treat contractor compliance like a checkbox. That worked a few years ago. It doesn’t anymore. Across Europe, the rules are tightening. The Netherlands is resuming DBA enforcement. Spain is already issuing fines per worker. Germany is doubling down on status tests. And the big shift is coming from the EU level. With the Platform Work Directive, by December 2, 2026, workers are presumed employees unless you prove otherwise. That flips the burden. It’s no longer just about how you structure contracts. It’s about whether your setup holds up under audit, across multiple jurisdictions. This is where most companies break. Local laws differ. Enforcement is increasing. And small mistakes scale fast. Ruul’s Agent of Record model changes that. Ruul becomes the legal counterparty with your contractors. That removes direct misclassification exposure from your business and standardizes how contracts, payments, and compliance are handled. Think of it as a legal and operational layer between you and the risk. You keep working with global talent. Ruul handles the compliance side. Before regulators start asking questions.

Can I freelance without a company? Short answer: yes. Long answer: also yes, and it’s way easier than most people think. You don’t need to set up a company just to start freelancing. You can begin as an individual, find clients, deliver work, and get paid. The real friction usually comes later, when clients ask for proper invoices or when legal and tax stuff shows up. That’s where most freelancers get stuck. Clients don’t want random PDFs. They want invoices they can actually process in their accounting systems. That usually means business details, tax compliance, and clean documentation. This is exactly the gap tools like Ruul solve. With Ruul, you can send a business-ready invoice without owning a company. Ruul acts as the legal counterparty, meaning the invoice comes with proper company details, and your client can pay it like any other vendor invoice. So yes, you can freelance without a company. You just need something that acts like one when it matters. That’s the difference between struggling to get paid… and looking like a business from day one.

Need to send an invoice as a freelancer, but do not have a company? That is where things usually get messy. You finish the work. Your client is ready to pay. Then the process slows down because they need a proper invoice, compliant paperwork, and clear business details before they can move forward. For a lot of freelancers doing contract work, that is the moment freelance payment gets stuck. The good news is, you can invoice without a company and still keep things professional. If you want to send invoice as a freelancer, the real goal is not just creating a PDF and hoping for the best. You need a freelance invoice your client can actually process. That means clear issuer details, a clean documentation trail, and a payment flow that feels legitimate for accounting and audit purposes. That matters even more when you invoice clients globally. Cross border contract work is growing fast, but the systems around it still feel clunky. Clients want to pay. Freelancers want to get paid. But if the invoice is not compliant, the whole thing can stall. That is why having a compliant way to handle freelance payment makes such a big difference. With Ruul, freelancers can send globally accepted invoices to clients, even without setting up a company. Ruul helps turn the transaction into a business ready flow with the invoice and payment details companies expect, so contract work becomes easier to bill and easier to pay. So if you are trying to send invoice as a freelancer, invoice without company status, invoice clients globally, and get paid without extra friction, the key is simple: use a workflow that is clear, professional, and compliant from the start. Because getting paid for freelance work should not be the hardest part of the job.
