💡 Subsidy vs Discount — Innovation Makes Subsidy the Icing, Not the Cake. For decades, the backbone of agricultural technology adoption in India has been Centrally Sponsored Schemes (CSS) — like PMKSY in irrigation and SMAM in mechanization. These programs powered the rise of micro-irrigation, offering 55–90% subsidies with joint contributions from the Centre and States. While such schemes accelerated adoption, they also created dependency — farmers often waited for subsidy cycles instead of investing in technology when they needed it most. But now, a new equation is emerging. 🚀 Startups are introducing built-in discounts that rival what a government subsidy would have offered — even before CSS programs expand to cover irrigation automation technologies. This isn’t just aggressive pricing — it’s strategic affordability. Where traditional OEMs waited for subsidies to justify higher prices, startups are re-engineering technology itself to make it viable without subsidy support. Here’s how AutoFarm is able to offer automation systems at subsidy-level discounts : ⚙️ Radical design innovation to achieve reliability which ultimately reduces warranty cost 💰 Courageous and scalable business models which focuses on operational efficiency Subsidies helped kick-start India’s irrigation revolution. But discounts born from startup innovation will drive the next one — making systems both affordable and upgradable. Being pragmatic, subsidy still has its place in scaling adoption. Not every farmer will immediately buy without support. But when technology itself bridges the affordability gap, subsidy transforms from being the foundation of adoption to merely the accelerator. And that responsibility — to make subsidy optional — rests with startups bold enough to innovate. #Agritech #SubsidyVsDiscount #SmartFarming #IrrigationAutomation #AutoFarm #StartupInnovation #PMKSY #FarmersFirst #Autofarm

Dubai-based agritech startup aydi has secured $7.5 million in seed funding to bring its flagship AI-powered assistant Orth to market and scale its global reach. The round was led by COTU Ventures, Daltex, and Nuwa Capital, with additional participation from Magrabi Agriculture and Foundation Ventures. Founded in 2022 by Hassan Fayed , Aydi positions itself as a “field operating system” for agriculture. Its platform combines satellite monitoring, predictive analytics, and conversational AI to provide farmers with real-time, plot-level insights that can boost crop yields by over 20%. The seed funding will accelerate the launch and global expansion of Orth, which debuted at the Fruit Attraction expo in Madrid (Sept 30 – Oct 2) with both free and premium tiers. At the heart of Aydi’s innovation is Orth, a smart assistant designed to address the growing challenges of climate instability, rising input costs, and the shortage of agronomists worldwide. According to Aydi’s internal research, 90% of farmers globally lack access to timely agronomy expertise, with just one agronomist available for every 10,000 acres. Orth aims to democratize this expertise by leveraging AI to deliver instant recommendations, early detection of crop issues, and personalized advice, all based on robust data integration from satellites, weather feeds, and local conditions. https://lnkd.in/dnvtDav9
