When an individual executes an agreement, it is often a requirement for that execution process to be witnessed. Many individuals, prior to executing an agreement, will not even stop to think about the risks involved in this seemingly innocuous process. Further, many legal practitioners do not view the witnessing process as “risky” and would not, as a standard practice, advise their clients of the risks involved in relation to it. In this article, authored by Glenn Hughes, Partner, with initial contributions by Difan Qu, he considers a number of scenarios and provides some practical tips to reduce associated risks. It is a must-read if you think there is little or no risk involved with a witness witnessing the execution of an agreement. https://lnkd.in/gttU4gZc #CornwallsLaw #OurPeople #Witness

This is super interesting to me. Well done Law.com International for more good reporting. Law Firms have often used Partnership promotions as a marketing tool - but as it says in the article "Kirkland has been considering not announcing the promotions since so many of the names are non-equity partners and some of them ultimately leave soon after promotions are announced, putting negative attention on the list." I've often wondered if the time will come when hiring and promotions won't be announced on LinkedIn....we've all had people join and then leave fairly soon after and it can potentially have a negative PR impact. Very interesting piece.

True legal maturity is revealed not only in the ability to react but, above all, in the understanding that every decision is also an act of prevention. When law aligns with awareness and strategic vision, it ceases to serve a merely corrective function and becomes a tool for sustainability, protection, and growth. In the practice of law and business management, it is observed that most conflicts arise long before reaching the judicial sphere, originating in the mindset that guides decisions. Choices driven by haste, fear, or misinformation often lead to consequences that could have been avoided through strategy, clarity, and purpose. Leaders and organizations that understand this dynamic transform the legal function into an essential pillar of governance, strengthening reputation, reducing risks, and building environments grounded in trust. As the week begins, so does the opportunity to reflect on what truly underlies our choices and on how we face our challenges: by merely reacting to circumstances or by planning with awareness?
