Our client, a leading P&C Insurance Company, is seeking a detail-oriented Senior Insurance Data Analyst (SQL Developer) to support the design, development, and optimization of data solutions within a Property & Casualty insurance environment. This individual will play a key role in building and maintaining data pipelines, data warehouse environments, and reporting systems that support underwriting, product, actuarial, and claims functions.
The ideal candidate brings strong technical expertise in data engineering along with an understanding of insurance data, including policy, premium, and claims information. This role will contribute to enhancing data architecture, improving data quality, and enabling advanced analytics to support business performance and strategic decision-making. This is a fully remote position with a strong preference for the candidate to reside in either New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts, or Pennsylvania.
Responsibilities
Writing complex SQL queries to support ad hoc business requests
Partnering with teams across Underwriting, Claims, Finance, and Marketing
Supporting production data environments and troubleshooting issues
Design, develop, and maintain scalable data pipelines and ETL/ELT processes for insurance data (policy, billing, claims, underwriting)
Build and support data warehouse solutions, including databases, data models, and reporting environments
Integrate data from multiple insurance systems including policy administration, claims, and third-party data sources
Develop and automate data processes with strong validation, reconciliation, and error-handling controls
Create and maintain reporting datasets, dashboards, and analytics tools to support underwriting performance, product analysis, and claims insights
Partner with underwriting, actuarial, product, and finance teams to understand data needs and deliver actionable insights
Support regulatory reporting, data governance, and compliance requirements within the insurance domain
Analyze data trends related to premiums, loss ratios, claims activity, and retention to support business decisions
Ensure data accuracy, consistency, and integrity across systems and reporting layers
Maintain metadata, data lineage, and technical documentation for insurance data assets
Support system enhancements, data migrations, and implementation of new insurance technologies
Monitor and troubleshoot production data processes and participate in on-call support as needed
Qualifications
5+ years of experience in data engineering, data warehousing, or a related technical role
2+ years of experience working with P&C insurance data, including policy, claims, billing, and underwriting datasets
Strong experience with ETL/ELT development and data pipeline architecture
Proficiency in SQL and experience with relational databases
Experience with cloud data platforms such as Snowflake, Databricks, or similar technologies
Familiarity with data visualization and reporting tools (Power BI, Tableau, etc.)
Understanding of insurance KPIs such as loss ratio, combined ratio, retention, and premium growth
Knowledge of policy administration systems and insurance data platforms preferred
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Analytics, or a related field preferred
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills
Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams across underwriting, actuarial, product, and IT
