The gopher tortoise is one of the oldest living species on Earth and the only native tortoise found east of the Mississippi. At Florida’s Camp Azalea, managed by Manulife Investment Management Timberland and Agriculture, this remarkable species is at the heart of conservation efforts. We caught up with Chad Rischar, National Manager of Ecological Mitigation Services, Global WAM, to learn more about the gopher tortoise and why protecting its habitat matters for biodiversity, resilience, and long‑term value.

We’re proud to make a multi‑year investment to the Fondation Douglas Foundation through the Manulife Longevity Institute, supporting the Douglas Cognitive Health and Prevention Clinic powered by Manulife, Quebec’s first clinic dedicated to personalized, evidence‑based dementia prevention. By focusing on earlier risk identification and tailored prevention plans, the Clinic helps adults take proactive steps to protect their cognitive health and reduce their risk of dementia. This week, members of our Canadian leadership team visited the Douglas Mental Health University Institute in Montreal for an overview of the research underway and to better understand how our commitment will support efforts focused on dementia prevention and cognitive longevity.
